Today, Duval County published a revised calendar for the 2008-2009 school year.  Below you will find a brief review of the changes.

  • Teacher planning day was moved from October 20th to October 24th.
  • Students WILL NOT attend school on November 11th or November 26th.
  • Students WILL attend school on November 10th, December 18th, and December 19th.

Please note:  These weather make-up days are different than what we were originally advised.  Please be sure to mark these changes on your calendars at home!

What a party pooper, this “Fay” is!  We were just getting our year rolling and now this unexpected weather break has forced us to put our adventure on pause.  I am very disappointed!

Please help your child continue to move forward in their back-to-school routine by asking them to read 20 pages each day.  This week we began generating ideas for topics we could write about.  Encourage your child to spend some time each day writing about one of those ideas, or even a new idea!  I’d love to read about their “Fay” adventures!

If your young writer has trouble getting started, share these reminders with them.

What do writers write about?

  • Adventures/trips
  • Memories
  • Topics you know about
  • Poetry
  • Things that have happened to them
  • People you know or like
  • Characters
  • Silly/embarrassing stories
  • Places you’ve been
  • Dreams/fantasies
  • Things in the future
  • Things you like
  • Things you wonder about (questions)
  • Things you worry about (fears)

Writers, I tried to remember all the wonderful ideas you helped me brainstorm on Tuesday.  However, I am almost positive I’ve forgotten something!  If you can remember more ideas, please post a comment reminding us all of more great ideas for to write about!

And until we meet again, I hope all of you stay safe, enjoy your time together, and read and write daily!
